Kerry welcomes Iran’s commitment

US Secretary of State John Kerry has welcomed Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif’s commitment to talks with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany.

According to Press TV, State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Monday “Secretary Kerry welcomes the Foreign Minister’s commitment to a substantive response and to his agreement to meeting in the short term with permanent UN Security Council members and Germany coordinated by EU High Representative Ashton to discuss the nuclear program.”
She added “We remain ready to work with Iran should President Hassan Rouhani’s administration choose to engage seriously.”
The Iranian foreign minister is set to meet with the foreign ministers from Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States on Thursday.
Zarif, who is on a visit to New York, also met with British Foreign Secretary William Hague on the sidelines of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly on Monday.
Hague expressed hope that constructive relations can be established between Iran and the West.
Hague said “There is a chance I think for improved relations with Iran because, if the statements of President Rouhani and Foreign Minister Zarif really mean something…then certainly there is a chance for us to improve relations and to work together across a whole range of subjects.”
